Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

you didnt have to use the gun though.
these are mechanics that are most likely there no matter what and it kills stealth because now it wont matter if you get caught or not. the whole point of stealth action is that when you get caught, it feels impactful and you have to act fast. but now the game will just slow down when you get caught so getting caught makes no fucking difference now.

some games, like f zero, are ideally played at a minimum of 60 fps since you need it to be responsive while going fast
there's nothing "cinematic" about low framerates so i dont know where you got that lol

It's rooted in technology that allegedly led to tradition.

24 FPS was the 'real-time' standard for projection equipment when we developed the technology to record things at a speed that recreated accurate motion effects.

People that shot in 48 fps ran out of money very quickly. Film reels were more expensive than acting talent for a while. (I have no source for that last bit, sorry)

I actually predicted that an open world stealth game would need a slow-mo effect to make the game less frustrating... I mean, I'm constantly restarting missions in Peace Walker and that game has AI that's intentionally bad. I'd hate to mess up and start all the way back on the other side of Afghanistan. Truthfully, I'm more concerned about nonlethal options and the presence of child soldiers.

Oh. And Quiet.

There we go.

Speculation

Maybe she's being forced to dress down as a form of ideological torture? Some people believe she may be a native to Afghanistan, in which case it's possible that she shares spiritual beliefs with the locals...
I'm not sure if Kojima can pull that off tastefully though.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

it may be related to her supernatural ability. in the trailer she removes facepaint in her eyes by blinking, so she has some control over her skin. someone had a theory that she may be a descendant of the end, who could photosynthesize and blend in with the jungle environment

Personally, I think the rorschach pattern on her face is Kojima making a statement about how people would react to Quiet's appearance. Like, she is a rorschach test herself. What does it say about someone that their first reaction to a scantily clad woman in a combat situation is "Is this supposed to be turning me on?"
Not that it wouldn't be tied to some crazy supernatural or technological feat if the above theory were correct....

Note: Rorschach tests are never supposed to be set up with specific results in mind, that's false psychoanalysis. Rorschach tests aren't even all that good for psychoanalysis. However, references to Rorschach tests tend to gloss over all that with the intent to say "Hey! This thing? Its nature is determined by the way you perceive it!" Like the Rawshocks of Shattered Memories.

Why would you even restart missions in peace walker
I mean how the fuck, and it doesn't even matter since previous installments had no slo-mo, yet you still had ample time to take down an enemy before he could get a word out or contact HQ

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

the only issue with the games pre-3 was that the camera angles SUCKED but the subsistence version of 3 and mgs4 fixed that.

also you need to restart missions in Peace Walker to get better rankings to get better weapons.

By restart that usually implies you failed.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

actually no im wrong i neglected the fact that MSG2 added first person aiming before MGS3 did so combat was way better then it was in MGS1.

but the camera angles otherwise were still terrible

S ranks and Perfect Stealth.

Doh. Yeah, slo-mo sounds like it's your only friend in an MGS title that has no onscreen radar.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

tranq gun takes too long to apply unless you always aim for the head

although i will admit sometimes i crack under pressure and miss every shot

i kinda like how the shooting works in peacewalker/mgs3d and how you have a choice between FPS and TPS styled shooting in MGS3D.
