The Fall of Alstand

Just a roleplay thread since i felt nostalgic of old rhq where we had a subforum and all although i suspect trolling coming in some from phoenix/mario/cable/moja pls dont

Story:

Some thousands of years ago (Thousands, not kabrillioguns of years), humans were born. Humans had the innate ability to touch the fabric of reality. They could snip, mend and manipulate everything that we can possibly understand. Most people did not have control over this ability, and were unable to put it to any use. However, those who could were known as "Weavers". Weavers studied their given arts and discovered many uses. From sprouting fires to conjuring hailstorms, they learned they could control nearly anything. Of course, a Weaver could only manipulate the specific areas he had studied in, and had the given strength to do so .Eventually, They formed a sort of "Religion", Believing that the world is controlled by a non-sentient being. It was named the "Ebb". This newfound belief soared through the world and became the single, world belief. Many other religions attempted to start, but were discarded as lunatic cults. In belief of Ebb, those with powerful control over their Weaving abilities were deemed holy, divine and just. They commonly formed important figures and world leaders. Those with latent abilities, or weaker abilities made the middle-lower classes of society. Those unfortunate enough to not have any abilities were turned into slaves. As humanity evolved, and those with stronger capabilities mated between themselves, a new race was born. The Elen, beings connected to the very fabric of the world. They number very few, cannot reproduce (Thus only a few exist at a time), and are born only from the most potent of humans. They live for hundreds of years at the time and have the potential to cause global catastrophes at a flick of a finger. The Elen were, for a very long time, regarded as a string of prophets. They would instantly be placed as leaders of the world, and be raised in special facilities from birth, separated from their parents.

For hundreds of years, the Elen and their followers ruled with an iron fist over those with lesser abilities. When major revolutions happened, and the lesser civilians refused to do their jobs, it was decided that everyone would "unify". Wars emerged, and ended swiftly in favor of the Elen. However, because a majority of the workforce was composed of the lesser humans, the Elen accepted the humans to be more or less "equal." This was when the Confederation of Alchemists were born, People with and without (mostly without) abilities who worked for the acceptance of those without. They also researched the world, the elements and brought force many technological advancements. At the end of the first millenium, a special invention was created by Alchemists. The invention was called the "Amplification Arm" (AA for short). It was a sort of contraption you would wear as a gauntlet. Made of leather, glass and metal, it was a tube on a glove in the most simple sense. At the entrance of the tube, there is a slot for "crystals" to be placed (or multiple, depending on the model). Then, at the tap of a button (or any motion triggering the AA), the crystal would be consumed and processed. The elements inside it would react and violently spew out of the other side. With the invention of this, the Elen became incredibly offended and demanded the product be banned in all countries still led by Elen authorities. This controversy sparked arguments all over the lands about how the AA should be banned, or should not be. Arguments lead to civil movements and civil movements led to official rulings by governments. Eventually the countries engaged in war between each other, and the first Wave of Wars happened. The Elen were greatly outnumbered by those who had attained the AA and due to restricted methods of reproduction, were dwindling in numbers compared to the lesser kinds. The wars only lasted a few years and the countries were soon forced into a mutual hate/peace agreement.

This is the time period where you come in.

tl;dr (thats fine shit story)

Time: equivalent of early 1930's with weird alchemy thingies instead of firearms
Important things: Elen + higher humans are dickbags who think they're royalty and shit, Alchemists are the equivalent of abolitionists and anti-segregationist, racism = having powers or not.

Specific Setting: Alstand, huge and diverse city. Not aligned with either alchemists nor Elen, lots of tense shit go on, elitism and etc. Capital of the biggest mixed country; Belaria

The central hub of Alstand is completely filled with community buildings and workhouses (ranging from the grand sports stadium to factories). As the city expands over a large portion of land, buildings become slightly more spread out and the residential homes start popping up. These are for mid-high class magic users only, and it's strictly prohibited for people without a pass to enter. As that spreads, the rest of the residential homes (and ghettos) appear. After this it turns into farmland and outer country areas. On the east side of Alstand resides one of the largest ports in the world, this is where a majority of Alstand's trading sprouts from and is a central figure to the country as well.

_______

Information for each category:

Age - The closer you are to your 20's or 30's, the stronger your abilities are generally. (For each 15 years of age, select another school of magic/alchemy) Although, age brings on every bad thing it does IRL aswell.
Gender - Females are generally weaker mages.
Race - I probably won't accept Elen unless you make a pritty cool app, so just stick to human, or if you have something original that makes sense go ahead
Social Class - Ebb followers are magic-users, they study one of 3 legal(Force, Flow and Protection) or 1 illegal school of magic(The Tide)

Protection focuses on healing arts/water/etc basically the helpful people, they tend to be pro-alchemy) (most rare)

Force focuses on war/fire/destruction, aka army kids and shit. very anti-alchemy usually. (uncommon)

Flow focuses on the daily tasks of people, they learn a bit of everything and shit, control wind and earth, most common class since they work well with occupations (it can differ a lot, like a blacksmith flow user might use his magic to heat up blades/cool down, or if strong enough he can craft things with his powers, most variable school)

Alchemists have two schools, and many smaller subcategories that each invent very specific things relating to what they do. Usually going to a school in alchemy doesn't actually restrict you to using that type, since alchemy works all around, but certain AA's are specified to a certain type of alchemy. Alchemists are NOT restricted to non-magic users

Information - Focus on sciences and advancing alchemy, learn how crystals are formed, used an creation of AA's. basically scientists and inventors. More rare to be picked.

Production - Focus on using AA for daily things, inventing new ways to use crystals, and lots of physical labour. Workforce and army. More popular by a large margin.

Occupation - Are you a college student? No job? Freelancer? how the fuck do you feed yourself, basically?
Focused school - See the above thing about each school, pick one of these, that's your strongest suite.
Magic user: If you can, or cannot use magic. Know that in order to join the Ebb, you MUST be able to use magic, or somehow trick them into believing you can.
Strength: See above.
Etc: anything not specified or things you feel are special enough to be added.

Don't feel restricted by the story, i want it to be as flexible as possible and to accept as many different character types and stories. Just try not to break things too much, okay? The only thing i'll say is, guns == AA's, just make your own rendition

________________

If you want to enter just put an app with this shit, i'll usually accept as long as you don't break the lore too much and aren't trolling.

Basic Rules

1. mary sues and thelike gidout
2. godmodding and shit gidout
3. keep the use of images to a relative low, i don't mind if you add them for flavor or occassionally make a picture of a letter or something, but don't take a scan of each post you make because you want to use a typewriter first ok
4. keep the lore stable, the point is for everyone to be able to modify it but try not to change things toooo harshly, also remember this is an entirely different world, any references you might make simply don't exist
5. no guns, only aa's that function similarily.
6. if you want to debate/discuss a certain plot point or anything that conflicts with someone, just ask them and settle it out, people shouldn't fight and only keep their bit of the story
7. don't control other people's characters without direct permission (i mean major actions)

Re: The Fall of Alstand

Since you messaged me on Steam why not.

Name: Durgos of Red-Moon (CoA Name Durgos Kell)
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Social Class (Ebb Follower/Alchemist/None): None
Occupation(if any): Wanderer
Magic user?: Yes
If yes to above, strength of powers: Innately fair, potentially with honing and usage strong.
Physical Description: Lean but toned. Won't run a marathon or bench 500, but can run from danger and move some heavy stuff if necessary. Tall, short messy brown hair, green eyes, tanned.
Bio: Born during a lunar eclipse, giving him his name. Son of a nomadic outlier tribe that has had only sparse contact with the CoA country they reside in. At 16, after his coming-of-age ceremony, he left the tribe to explore the greater world. He traveled to the first CoA city he found and was employed by a tech-guild to acquire hard-to-find alchemical crystal/ingredient. After a few months of this he made enough money to buy an alchemical force-projector and supplies. He quit his job and began traveling through the various countries of the world.
Anything else: Carries an Alchemical Force-Projector (think a firearm) that fires ice spikes. Doesn't stay in one place too long; he learns what he can about an area and moves on. Keeps a journal of his travels; his most prized possesion. It's written mainly in native glyphs though so it's harder to read than CoA language. He's not naïve but harbours a romantic view of the world. Has never seen an Elen but desires to know more about them. He has fair survivalist skills, is a good but not great artist, isn't good with words, and prefers to keep out of trouble.

Re: The Fall of Alstand

until i draw her
Name: Aiya "Aiygel" Kaimi
Age(15+ due to needing to be graduated from school): Equivalent of 20's
Gender: Female
Race: Homunculus
Social Class (Ebb Follower/Alchemist/None): Alchemist
Occupation(if any): Psychological Researcher/Explorer
Focused School type(Not illegal): Information
Magic user?: No, but has similar powers (see anything else)
If yes to above, strength of powers(remember to factor in whether you studied your powers or not): Pretty extreme control over her powers.
Physical Description: Tall (around the 5'11 range), with long blonde hair. Appearance seems to fluctuate with mood, but in general a thin-looking person who doesn't seem like they can fight.
Bio: Born by mistake in a small lab, located in the outskirts of a major city (Alstand?). At first shocking, then fascinating the man. He decided to keep it alive as a "project", and when he realized it was becoming a human-like organism, he treated it as his own daughter. She was able to "consume" Alchemy crystals and use them like an AA would, except to a much higher degree of control. The downside to this was she effectively needed to have crystals flowing in her body at all times in order to survive (sort of like blood?). Over time he became more and more fascinated with her, and rather than thinking of her as his offspring, he treated her as an experiment. Eventually, something i won't reveal yet, but was terrible happened. And the man ended up dead. Aiygel decided to explore the world and research more about humans to be able to repeat their actions as best as possible, and fit "in" to all of society. Unfortunately her personality is extremely binary and she has little understanding for human emotions (nor her own). Takes requests very seriously and attempts to fulfill them (as long as they are logical) to the greatest degree of success possible.
Anything else: She's a walking AA. Along with that, she has some degree of shapeshifting, can mend her body parts together and stretch them past points deemed "normal", but not able to replicate other people or anything, nor become animals and shit. Requires AA crystals to stay functioning.

Re: The Fall of Alstand

Name: Devijai 'Janice' Maelstrom
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Social Class: None
Occupation: Thief, works part-time on a farm.
Focused School: None
Magic user?: Definitely not. Not a single ounce out of the ordinary.
Physical Description: Kind of short, at 5' even, nonetheless rather muscular (which is rather hard to tell) underneath her loose, baggy farmhand clothes. She otherwise appears to be a thin, tiny pale twig beneath them, given she didn't roll up her sleeves any. Her outfit rarely changes, and if it ever did, it'd still be just some plain shirt and pants of a possibly different color, contrasting none with the single pair of dirty brown shoes she owns. She doesn't favor dresses or skirts, nor heels. Short blonde hair, and orange eyes that give a gaze as sweet and golden as honey.
Bio: The lovechild of a sailor and a florist, Devijai first came into the world as Janice Maelstrom, taking quick interest in her father's profession over her mother's, which netted a little bit of jealousy and future talks about how she needs to be raised into a proper woman. Heavy lifting, both as the household's only daughter and her father's only lady amongst his ship's crew, did not do a good job of meeting her mother's expectations, and she insisted to her husband that she not go on any more expeditions to the sea with him any longer. He never really gave any input on the issue, and if she wanted to come along he did not protest, unlike her mother, who only grew angrier and angrier with Janice and her father with every trip.

To this day, however, any thought of the sea that comes to her mind only fills her with anger and guilt.

Her father's crew overstayed their welcome in the sea one week, having awoken to a strong wave rocking their ship like some toy in a bathtub. Whatever crew sleeping outside in their comfortable positions against the mast or possibly against the cargo was knocked onto the cold, now water-slicked deck, save for a couple that were already lying there, albeit presently drenched in icy saltwater. Rain began to pour as the crew tried their hardest to contain their panic, which in Devijai's retrospect wasn't very hard at all. The sea grew angrier, slamming against the ship with such a force that it began to stumble crew off of the ship and into the livid waters below. One of those men was Devijai's father, and in a blind haste she grabbed the first thing attached to a rope. It was awful heavy, she noted as she hurled it into the water, not even realizing that she threw it straight into his damn face, not only knocking him out, but because of the tug caused by the rope having gone to it's furthest extent, the knot on the bag came loose. Out spilled every bit of it's contents, as disgusting as what was once her father rose up to the surface after a painfully long wait.

Chum.

Janice, eventually, safely returned home thanks to a search party that came looking for their ship in all of the mess, bringing back with her anger, shame, guilt, and tears. Her mother asks where her father is; Janice is adamant on replying.

There wasn't enough left of her father's remains for there to be an open casket, (the storm kind of sucked the corpse back under the water, pulling him beneath the ship and... things only got uglier from there, considering someone made the unwise decision to keep the propeller running) and not even a picture due to their impoverishment. Only a hat similar to his own, borrowed from one of the crew members that made it back to Alstand alive. Janice's mother hardly spoke to her for a month following the incident, until she grew angry. Janice is the reason he never made it out of the water in the first place, she came to realize. Janice was the one that let him be reduced to nothing but minced man meat. Since then, Janice was continuously the family scapegoat for their ever increasing financial instability; even her step-father of two months (at the time) joined in. At 15, to appease them, she ended up getting a job at a nearby farm, bringing back the majority of the family's income, which wasn't much. After a while, though, the income made a strange jump, almost tripling... Over the years, she began developing a rather toned physique, which she explains that she worked very heavily to get and still works to maintain, although nobody knows where the hell she finds the time to. It's rumored that she doesn't sleep too much.

Nobody ever really questioned her, nor the reason why she began to refuse to be called anything besides Devijai, in increasing assertion; they just figured she didn't want to be called Janice because it made her feel guilty, seeing as they're the only people that call her by her given name to this day.

"An eye for an eye", her mother once told her. "You made my life hell, and I have the right to reciprocate."

Anything else?: Devijai, in a situation of fight or flight, will more often fight than anything, and she can fight like hell, so unless you have some sort of advantage there is no one in the world that would suggest to you that you should get into a fistfight with her. Very quick, agile, and quiet; necessary for her secondary, not-so-secret-now profession.

Re: The Fall of Alstand

all 3 above approved, i'll start the story off soon (i'll tell people when i post as a narrator or as a character, and don't be shy to introduce new characters (and if they're important, go ahead and make another sheet))

Re: The Fall of Alstand

Name: Lieutenant Isabella 'Trude' Hilltrude Friedmann
Age: 32
Gender:Female
Race:humen
Social Class :Ebb Military
Occupation: Commissioned Officer
Focused School type: Force
Magic user: yes
If yes to above, strength of powers(remember to factor in whether you studied your powers or not):Good enough
Physical Description: Trude has a sensible haircut of chestnut hair with a number of linkin streaks. She always wears her raincoat over her green uniform blouse and baggy trousers, which hide her scrawny figure well. She has unmemorable features except for the bags under her cloudy green eyes.
Bio: Lt. Friedmann is a 6th generation soldier from a family with a long tradition in the army. From when she was a little girl her father, a general who had fought bravely in the first Wave Wars, had told over and over that that going into the army is what she would do, and she came to love this idea soo much that she even wanted to become an officer. But since Trude is a girl her father had to pull strings and such to get her into officer’s school, and when she finally enrolled she was a horrible cadet. But even with dozens of demerits she still graduated as the only girl in her class. And she became a mediocre officer, who merged into the ranks of the talentless other officers in the Belarian army, the only outstanding thing was her gender. After her father died she was transferred to internal affairs by the higher ups who wanted to get rid of her. But she was able to get permission to form a small unit that would rout out dangerous groups and cells that posed a threat to the government, a task formerly carried out by the police. Now instead of being chained to a desk Trude breaks up anarchist meetings and arrests anti government protesters.

Re: The Fall of Alstand

Trude left the barracks building through the front door and was immediately greeted by the cold. It was a chilly day, it was always chilly in the North, and that was to be expected. All the important military bases and the headquarters for the entire nation of Belaria were in the North where the mountains would bottleneck an invading army. It was a defender's dream.

But Trude hated it. She hated how many tunnels she had gone through on the train ride up here. Every tunnel and bridge was layered with hidden explosives that would be detonated in case of an invasion, some immediately as part of the defensive strategy, others as a method of stalling the enemy if they pushed the Belarian army into a retreat. Trude believed that each tunnel and bridge her train went through would accidentally detonate and kill everyone aboard, obviously including herself. She hoped that if a detonation did occur it would be inside of a tunnel. This would be instant and painless. If a bridge went off with her train over it there would be a few seconds as the train plummeted into the gorge or chasm. Trude decided that the plummeting was not preferable to the instant death of being smothered by a mountain.

As the train exited the mountains she gazed out the window at the city bellow, surrounded by high walls with a wide river running through it. The military district was designed to swallow any invading forces from a set number of entrance points and inflict as many casualties on that force before they reached the underground HQ located dead center. There were artillery stations honeycombed into the surrounding mountains where alchemists would rain ordnance down onto the sections ceded to the enemy. There were certain buildings designed to be hit in a certain area so that they would collapse instantly and block an adjacent street. The roads themselves narrowed at the vast traffic circles which would easily stall mechanized infantry and logistics chains. Every single crossing on the river was a drawbridge that could be easily retracted at a moment's notice (the drawbridges were a recent addition after the pre placed explosives in one of the greater spans went off by accident and killed scores of people, most while drowning in the cold river). Trude admired the construction and the effort that had gone into the military district, but she thought it had no soul like a regular city would. Alstand had a soul since it had been built for citizens instead of soldiers

The train pulled into the big ornate station that only took in and sett out trains carrying troops and other personnel. All the freight trains went to another station as not to tarnish the polished tile and elaborate stonework of the central station. Trude walked through the elaborate station with its brasswork and marble archways and found her way to the front entrance within half an hour of her arrival. There was a long staff car waiting for her outside, and she hurried to get inside and bask in the warmth of the electric heater. The driver was a young man of slightly thicker than average build, as was common in this region. The man winced when he saw Trude's eyepatch, blinking twice. Trude stared at him intently as she sat down in the leather beat: But not because he found her missing eye unsettling, this had happened regular- for 8 years and she no longer found it offensive.
Trude stared at the man in anticipation that he would reach back to kill her, and readied herself to shock him first. The man only welcomed her to the military district, gave his name and rank and told her he would be taking her to the barracks, where she would stay. He reached back to shake her hand and Tude prepared to shock him, electricity arcing between the gaps in her fingers. But she stopped when the driver keeled away. Trude tried to explain that she merely misunderstood the man's intent along' the way, but gave up trying to convince him of her sanity at the first large traffic circle. Trude spent the rest of the drive worrying that a bomb strapped to the car would go off and kill her, but she started to feel relieved when she realized how improbable it would be at this late in the drive. But then she thought it could be on a timer, and began to worry once again.

When the car pulled into the  motor pool at the barracks she tipped him generously and hauled her trunk away all by herself. The building where her room was was one block down the street, and she began to lug her trunk down the sidewalk. She got to the building without being picked off by any rooftop assassins and began climbing the staircase to the fourth floor, where her room was. Trude reached her room safely and quickly went inside , immediately drawing the curtains and locking the door.

Trude breathed a long sigh of relief and gazed aroundher room. She was being boarded in a normal dormitory with three small bedrooms connected to a hallway, but two of these were empty and the third was furnished with a small desk. Trude smiled when she saw that the furnished room had the radiator in it. She hung her heavy coat on the tall bedpost and lied down on the bottom mattress. Tude fished through her jacket pocket for her cigarettes and matches and lit one, using the battered wooden floor as an ashtray. She reached back into her pocket and retrieved her flask. After three sips a wave of calm came over her and she came to the conclusion that nobody would try to murder her while she was up north.e

Trude lied on her back and stared through the empty bunk frame at the ceiling as long minutes ticked away. The performance review far her 'enforcer' unit was tomorrow morning. The review council would try to shut it down and ship her off to some miserable, godforsaken duty like breaking up mining strikes or organizing he time tables the trains would run on during a nationwide mobilization. Trude laughed to herself when she envisioned each member on that council being done in by letterbombs or arsenic after they did away with the very thing that made sure that assassinations and any other form of treason never took place.

Or at least with less frequency.

It was night, an extremely cold and chilly night. I've been used to situations like this for a while, so it's not like it's incredibly discomforting, but I don't enjoy traveling in the cold winds. I've approximately 2 miles away from finally arriving at Alstand; some overglorified city that appears to be the capital of the country i'm in. I've been walking for about 16 hours without a resting point, so i'm particularly exhausted. As i walk by the road leading to the city, i spot by a small little country house, and mark the location internally. I spend a few moments deciding whether i should stop by and rest there until daybreak, or to keep going on my trip. Eventually, the exhaustive state my body is in overrules the efficiency that could-have-been, and i walk closer and closer to the house. It seems to own a relatively large portion of land nearby as a farm, given that no other houses are here. And the farms are too far from the city to be government owned. As i approach, i'm cautious enough to make sure the owners do not see me, although i doubt they would be awake at this time of night. I make my way to a shed outside the home and open it slowly. It seems to be some sort of storage shed, many tools and devices are here. I let down my oversized backpack and reach in for two specific crystals, taking a bite out of one with a swift motion. Usually these things are hard and tough to break, but being myself i can simply process the outer hard covering and consume the insides; or all of it at once. As i finish -eating?- the crimson crystal, i lay out another before me and hold it in my hands. In a short amount of time the outer layer shatters and from the inside oozes out a sort of light-brown substance, i slowly spread it over the ground in front of me. I stretch out my arm and i force my "veins" to throw energy into my fingers, small sparks fly out of the tips and eventually one catches on the ooze. It immediately lights and the rest of it sparks into a flame.

Tired, i bring out a few more crystals, navy-blue colored ones, and my small sleeping bag. I slowly wrap myself and lay next to the small fire i lit, which should last about 30 more minutes. My mind wonders off into what the city would be like, the types of people i would meet and the unfortunate decisions i'll have to make about myself. I'm still in need of a job, unless i plan to last the next few months hiding out in sheds and eating single crystals for a daily dose of energy. I hope sincerely that this city will present itself with more working opportunities than the last city i rested at; and with that more opportunities to learn. I take out my calender and mark the next few months ahead of us as a stay in Alstand, not planning to stay here any longer than 6 months. With that finished, i decide to end the fire and finally consume the crystals i had brought out. Down to my final 10 in storage, i won't be able to survive the next week or so without a steady income of these. I place them on my hands and concentrate as they dissolve into my body. Not all of these deserve the pleasure of oral consumption, especially with the rancid tastes. As i finish, i put my head to the cold ground, close my eyes and wait. I wait for another dream to lift me off of my feet, or for my eagerness to have one to cause me to lack one, again.

Re: The Fall of Alstand

"Six pence per, six pence per only." Durgos barked at the crystal salesman. He was starting to get tired of haggling, and made it obvious in his body language.
"I'm sorry, I can't go under a dime a piece. Six pence is what I buy them for," replied the salesman, showing signs of exhaustion. Durgos knew he had him.
"Then I go somewhere else," he replied, turning around just the right way. He counted down from three.
"No! No, no I can do six pence a piece." The salesman acquiesced at count one. Durgos had played the game so many times it was surprising it still gave him this much satisfaction.
He bought two-hundred, enough to fill two crystal bags.

Alstand was a city of grandeur compared to the boroughs and hamlets Durgos had encountered so far on his journey. Shimmering citadels of stone laced with shining glass and steel reinforcements towered above him as he made his way through the stolid shops and stands of this alchemist ghetto's street market. Everything imaginable was sold here, but things that Durgos thought only groceries became so inflated in price as to become commodities. Alstand was a land of plenty for those who immersed themselves in this plenty, but to those who couldn't amass the wealth necessary it was an uphill battle to survive. Durgos sold his fairly fresh meat (chilled with magic) and bought crackers and jerky, things that would last his romp through the urban expanse. He used the profit to buy his crystals, paper and other stationary, and other various sundries, making sure he had enough to last his sojourn. He heard Elen resided in this city, and it was time he met one. Asking around about them though made strangers throw him dirty looks, so he concluded that Elen were a bit of a hot-button topic and not something discuss. Every city had its quirks like that, Durgos had found, but never had he seen something as strong as this Elen business. As he made his way to a cheap hotel to stay for the night, he planned the particulars of his stay in Alstand.

Re: The Fall of Alstand

Trude fell asleep on the bunk for an hour or two and awoke late in the after-noon. There was nothing to do for the next several hours before dinner and' she couldn't go back to sleep, so she put on her coat and cap and walked downstairs to the street. There was a small cafe that the car had passed not very far from this section of the barracks, and she went there. The streets were cold but inside the cafe it was nice and warm. Trude ordered coffee and some small pastries. The little cakes were stale and the coffee was weak, but she didn't mind. Trude came here in order to kill time, and she managed to waste half an hour's worth.

She spent the next hour or so wandering around what few shops the military district had, staring through the windows at whatever was on display. The things for sale varied from either cheap, common items for enlisted men and elaborate things that would pander to the officers. None of it interested her, which disappointed the hopeful shopkeepers standing inside. Trude bought a bottle of whisky end another packet of cigarettes before walking back to her room.
For dinner Prude bought more little cakes and a small jar of cherries  at the same cafe she visited earlier. She spent the moments between eating reading her book and nursing the bottle of cheap whisky. The empty cherry vial male a good ashtray. The book wasn’t very good but it was at least fun to read, the chapters were short and gave it good pacing. She found it hard to fathom that a country that had experienced a civil war only six years earlier would send out such a costly expedition for a giant narwhal, but it was fiction.

Trude went to bed at around 9 PM but woke up at around one in the morning according to her pocketwatch. She couldn't go back to sleep so she lit another cigarette and stared at the ceiling. She worried about the little council that she would stand before tomorrow. There was no way of knowing what the members would be like as they changed every time, what kind of questions they would ask her or anything else along those lines. She knew that they would try once again to dissolve her unit, this was the sixth review in four years. In wartime you could lose your entire command and as long as you had kissed enough ass the worst you would receive was a demotion and a transfer to another unit. These reviews were only given to anyone who stepped out of line or came up with new ideas or tactics. 'Calvary is no longer effective now that we are fighting in the 20th century.' Performance review and subsequent dishonorable discharge.

In the first reviews it was easy to spout statistics about reductions in the amount of pamphlets the police would find being distributed, a decline in number of assassination attempts and overall less presence of extremist activity as signs that her unit was worth keeping around. This worked the first few times, but then they began prying into her family history and other irrelevant details. They ridiculed her for her missing eye, brought up her mother's disappearance and questioned the actions of her individual troops while on duty.

If the council was successful in disbanding her unit and shipped her off to some godforsaken colony or chained her to a desk she would resign. Trude figured she would either become a postal carrier or cut blocks off ice up in the mountains for refrigeration. Her grandfather had been an icecutter over 50 years ago and it had made him so strong he could pick her up one handed until she was 10 years old, when he died. Trude finished her fourth cigarette since she woke up at three and fell asleep while still in her uniform. She had filled the cherry vial three quarters to the top with ashes and a handful of cigarette butts

Re: The Fall of Alstand

Devijai works aimlessly in the fields among the Vaalk estate, from picking apples and peaches from the endless acres of forest and throwing them into a basket to bring back to the farm, to tilling dirt for new crops, to steeling her nose and cleaning out stables, although currently she's doing the second of those three. It is now 7:30 AM in the morning, as Devijai left the house at 3:00 AM, took an hour and forty-five minutes to get there, and immediately set off to work, having arrived at 4:45; right on time.

Devijai doesn't question her odd hours, nor her low pay, as she finds that it evens out the wage to see her lovely boss working out in the fields herself every now and then. Tesh H. Vaalk, one of the most attractive, not to mention most deadly women she's ever associated with. Tesh doesn't talk to her much, unless it's an order or a criticism, derogatory's a better word in the latter case. She's also punched Devijai so hard in her forehead that she was confirmed dead for a whole minute, yet shortly after she sucked in the wind that was knocked out of her just as quickly. Hit Devijai so hard that she can't even remember why Tesh had hit her in the first place. One thing Devijai is certain of, though, is that she's seen and thoroughly experienced the afterlife. It's pretty uneventful, she thinks.

She then thinks of Tesh, instead. Long, dark, maroon hair that falls down to her wide hips, lightly tanned skin, a white long-sleeve and a brown sleeveless vest over it with gray cotton pants that hug her legs no tighter than Devijai would if she could. Without getting clocked. of course. A brown belt with a shiny silver buckle tightly embraces her hips, something she's been long jealous of, and steel-toed work boots that had once met Devijai's stomach when she tried sneaking a few apples home for herself. She dons a black eyepatch over her right eye, next to it being a contrasting, bright, obnoxiously purple left eye; Tesh scowls every time Devijai asks about it.

There is not a single inch of that woman she's not memorized, and she's especially grateful that Tesh shows her her back so often when she walks off after giving her an order. Unfortunately, that's becoming less and less commonplace as Devijai's more and more familiar with what chores she's supposed to be doing...

Devijai shrugs. It's to be expected, she thinks, as she continues preparing the dirt beneath her feet for Tesh's coming crops and dreaming of her all the while. What kinda' clothes would Tesh look best in?

Barely any at all.

Devijai isn't too good with punchlines.

Re: The Fall of Alstand

It was dark.

The entire concept of blackness and darkness whirled in my mind as my vision faded into nothingness, and it stayed that way. I counted seconds, then minutes and hours, but i saw no end to this fate. As i imagined a clock ticking by, i could only hope that i would eventually be able to break out of this comatose state. In an instant, i could see my immediate surroundings, but i felt my eyes were closed. I could hear voices that weren't there, the shed would change to different colors, each equally as dark as the last. I struggled to move, i could feel myself slamming into the edges of my skin but i could not budge. I would do this stronger, harder every passing moment, hoping that i would eventually shatter this paralysis. And eventually, i did. I suddenly jerked to the wall, slamming my face neatly against the wood and causing a huge noise to fill the shed. I immediately recoiled, and in an attempt to ignore the pain and focus on what could be an immediate danger, i stuffed the bag inside my backpack and immediately sprinted outside of the shed. It did not take me long to realize that the sun had not yet risen. After about 10 minutes of running from the farmhouse, i stopped, caught my breath and extracted another crystal from my bag. This one a smooth silver, i quickly shoved it into my mouth and felt as the outer layer dissolved against my teeth. Rather than some liquid emerging from the inside, it was an expansive gas, i could hardly swallow the air as it emerged from the crystal. Eventually it became too much and i began to cough, letting some of the linkin air leak from my mouth.

"Ergh.. Wrong type.." I spoke to nobody in particular.

I stayed still to calm down a bit and regain my normal composure, and immediately set out again on the road. I was close to my destination, but it would still take some walking.

Some hours later, i stumbled upon another farmhouse, with the still-expanding farm next to it. I was curious why there was such a large connection of farms here, possibly part of a business? I decided to take a detour, not being too far from Alstand anyways, It would take about 3 hours walking to get there and i still have most of the day to go.

As i step forward onto the rather massive farmlands, I notice ahead of me is a fairly well-grown field of corn. Out of mostly curiosity, i pluck a cob out of the plant and examine it. I've never truly understood why humans eat, or why they tend to favor certain things more than others. I immediately plunge my mouth onto it, and familiarize myself with the taste of corn. I pause, munching slowly and concentrate. Nothing. I simply cannot figure out what's so special about human food.

I follow the edge of the field until i reach the next field, which doesn't seem to have been sown yet. There's a few diggers preparing the land for what i could only assume is more crops. Only a single female amidst them, some short blonde. I can't necessarily make her figure out due to the distance between us. I follow a small path into the farmhouse and attempt to open the door.

Locked.

I figure the few ways i could enter the home myself, intrigued by what could be so special to be stored inside that they would need to lock it. I check around me, making sure nobody is looking, and when calm enough wrap my hand around the metallic knob. I concentrate, and slowly the knob glows a deep white, then red. It becomes incredibly malleable quickly, and i literally pluck it off the door, using my other hand to prevent any fires by dribbling water wherever one might start. I open the door slowly, and begin to rummage around the insides.

The first thing i find is a small basket filled with apples. Perhaps another attempt would be worth the effort? I drop the piece of corn i had earlier and pick up a small, shiny apple. I immediately bite onto it and the juice from it overflows and spills outside of my mouth. The taste is very specific, interesting as-well, but i can't seem to understand why these are grown so specifically. Why don't they just create the necessary nutrition they need to survive and live with that? What's the entire point of all of these varying amount of foods and tastes?

Re: The Fall of Alstand

Footsteps from upstairs near the staircase that leads directly to the room Aiygel currently stands. A voice follows those steps, and it certainly isn't polite.

"DEVIJAI, IF THAT'S YOUR SORRY ASS STEALIN' MY FUCKIN' APPLES AGAIN I'LL MAKE SURE THAT YOU TASTE NOTHIN' BUT BLOOD FOR WEEKS!! WHAT DID I TELL YOU ABOUT STEPPIN' INTO MY HOUSE WITHOUT PERMISSION?"

Devijai straightens up, head turned toward the house. She heard Tesh's voice.

The door is open... and, she can't tell, she's rather far away, but is the doorknob suddenly just, missing?

Devijai puts two and two together. Tesh yelling, door seemingly opened in a way it should not have been opened, i.e.: lockpicking, doorknob removal, generally breaking in...

As soon as she comes to the assumption that oh, shit, Tesh is getting robbed, she drops her hoe and immediately makes a run for the house, careful not to trample tilled dirt, hopping up the steps and making sure to go no further than Tesh's doorstep, leaning forward with both hands on the edge of the door. She immediately finds Aiygel, apple in hand, bite in apple, and apparently Tesh had too, seeing as she's standing at the bottom of the staircase, turning her one-eyed gaze to Devijai for a mere second before returning it to whoever the fuck it is holding her and only HER apple.

Tesh gives the first intruder her trademark scowl.

"First off, who the hell are you thinkin' you can take a single step on my property without my say-so, and second, who the hell do you think you are takin' things that aren't yours, thief?"

Tesh subtly holds her hand a ways away from her hip, the leather glove over it quick to unravel itself, then travel up her sleeve. Devijai takes quick note of that, wide-eyed. Before, she was just staring at her hips again, but... then that caught her eye. She wasn't aware of Tesh being one of.. THOSE people. She hardly looks like a scholar, let alone any type of magician.

"Well?"

Re: The Fall of Alstand

"Oh.." I murmur slightly, mostly bewildered by the immense action that unfolded before her. I take a deep, open-ended gaze at the woman who rushed down the stairs screaming at the top of her lungs. I honestly had thought i was rather discreet in my entrance, but maybe that's just another skill i'll have to brush up on.

"Hrm.." I try to figure out how i could respond to the question, stating the truth might aggravate the possible she-demon even more, and it seems she has some sort of control over magic. Of course, it's difficult to come up with a proper lie, as well, and i don't seem to excel in that field either.

I let out a small sigh, and stand up, growing a bit taller to match the height of the rather brusque female in front of me.

"I..." I start off in a higher state of speech, attempting to control the conversation, before i realize i have no possible way of establishing that sort of superiority here.

"I don't have enough time to come up with a proper excuse, and will instead ask for you to believe i have just told you a proper, believable excuse as to why i have entered your home and eaten an apple." I immediately bow, drop the half-eaten apple in front of her feet, and begin my way towards the door.

This is when i realize that rather than making a very convincing and timely escape from a probably dangerous situation, i've instead become cornered, by a small blonde and a very aggressive looking demon-pirate.

Such an unfortunate day i chose to wander into a seemingly-empty home and consume a single fruit.

Re: The Fall of Alstand

"Ooohh, you in it now, hon." Devijai near-chuckles in a low voice.

____________________________________________________________________________

Name: Tesshiem Heather Vaalk
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Social Class: Neutral
Occupation: Farm owner.
Focused School: None.
Magic User?: Yes. Tesshiem is capable of shaping steel and leather into any item she desires just by touch, and is capable of turning one into the other, steel -> leather and leather -> steel. This process can be repeated several times with the same leather/steel.
Strength of Powers: Full control over her ability.
Physical Description: Tesshiem stands at 6' 2", and weighs a good 190 pounds, most of it being on her more important assets. She was more or less born to be a lady on the pin-ups, but she turned to farming, instead. Thick thighs and derriere, sizable chest, and a little bit of chub in other, less important places.  Aforementioned dark, maroon hair that falls to her hips. Usually seen in, as Devijai described, a white longsleeve, brown sleeveless vest, gray cotton pants, and brown work boots. Also wears leather gloves, and an eyepatch of the same material. Also owns a leather jacket and pants, although they aren't very aesthetically pleasing. Function over form, she says. Her single purple eye contrasts from the rest of her outfit. Light Scahish (pretty much Scottish) accent.
Bio: Tesshiem Heather Vaalk was born in the mountains of Scah, near a little city called Loit. Her father, Cin, was a very successful businessman, creating a log cabin in the mountains for he and his sweetie, Sylv, to reside in. It was a couple of hours to work, by car, but the location was worth it he supposed. Around a year into living in the cabin, Tesh was born on December 21st, 1911, having her father's hair and her mother's eyes. One was a darker tint of purple than the other, but you didn't notice it if you didn't stare at them hard enough. Two years pass, arguments became frequent among husband and wife, about work, moving somewhere else already, better pay, et cetera.

By the time Tesshiem turns four, Cin goes missing one morning. Sylv tells her not to worry, says he's just going to be gone a little while. Tesh doesn't know how to feel about the whole thing, she kind of already missed him and it'd been mere minutes since she woke up. She shrugged it off, and went downstairs for breakfast.

He makes no return, and with no father, there is no income, and with no income, there is no money to pay the bills. A year passes, and Sylv ends up selling the home for a reasonable amount, managing to purchase a smaller, shabbier home in Loit. Living there is easy for a short bit, considering they have enough money to scrape by for a year or two from selling the house, and Sylv is holding a job as a farmhand, bringing back at least something. Eventually, Sylv is laid off for reasons unknown to Tesh, and the money from previously sold property begins to run low. After 3 years, they sell their other home, as well, moving in with Sylv's mother and Tesh's grandmother, Leah. The two frantically search for jobs, Tesh finding one in a daycare that Leah owns and her mother finding one at yet another farm.

Tesh no longer attends school by this point, as work has become far more important. Sylv and Leah's hard work alone might not've been enough to pay for all three of them, and Sylv didn't want to risk losing her mother's home, too, especially after how well Leah was living without them beforehand. Tesh holds her job for not much longer than a week, as she begins to come in to work less and less, until where it came to the point where her own grandmother and housemate had to fire her. She didn't mind, though, she wasn't all that good with kids to begin with.

Tesh is 13, and her grandmother has recently passed away due to a flu that her poor immune system just couldn't handle anymore. The house was left to the both of them, and the daycare was left to one of Leah's friends that worked beside her, from grade school, to college, to just a week ago. Their lives are a little slow for a couple of days, then grieving is over and life is normal again. Sylv is starting to see other men, one mechanic in particular taking her interest. Said mechanic, named Al, began living with Sylv and her daughter after having dated her for a few months. Tesh quickly grew attached to her new step-father, and with that grew her influence upon what she might want to be for the rest of her life. She wanted to be a mechanic, now, just like Papa Mk. II, as she endearingly titled him at one point. He didn't mind it, and honestly found it a bit nice; cute, rather. She sometimes came to work with him, helped him out a bit by grabbing tools he needed or just getting grease and grime off of a few of them. Didn't do too much, but she enjoyed watching him.

By the time Tesh is 17, she's managed to scrape up enough money from birthdays, allowance, and petty work for a train from Loit to Alstand, a prosperous, successful city as she had once heard. She heard that there was better opportunity, and better housing and everything there. Sylv is reluctant to let her go, but Al convinces her that it's probably best that she lives a life that she makes for herself, not one that Sylv restricts her to. She wouldn't be as happy as she could at some point be. Tesh is quick to pack up her things as soon as Sylv mutters an "okay", setting herself an alarm for 5:30 AM sharp.

Teary-eyed goodbyes are kept to a minimum upon her leave, and it's an awkward shuffle of tepid feet for a bit before Tesh finally boards the train. It's hard to happily say goodbye to people you aren't going to see again in forever, yet have been around a good part of your lifetime, let alone your entire existence. Tesshiem arrives in Alstand within a few hours, quickly finding herself a little apartment to stay in, and a job as the dishwasher at a local bar, which pays a little more than enough to keep her going. That little bit more allows her to come to the bar herself for a few drinks every now and then, as well as other minor luxuries like candies and fair admissions. She doesn't think of family that much anymore.

There is absolutely no information on how she came to own the farm, nor any record of where she got the money to purchase both the land and the buildings in the first place. Alstand is full of oddities. She thinks of family even less, now, but still sends money back to them in Loit.

Anything Else?: Heavy drunkard.
Has a very odd set of abnormal characteristics: Can lift up to 581 pounds, high internal body temp (116 degrees fahrenheit), high metabolism and alcohol tolerance, resistance to almost all illness, wounds release steam when freshly opened, her blood burns to the touch, wounds heal surprisingly quick, severed limbs and other cut off parts of Tesh's body can be reattached if placed where they once belonged (process can take up to a month, depending on what was severed. must remain bedridden), short temper, and has once punched a hole through a bus because of said short temper.

"Hush, 'Jai." Tesh interjects. "Now, seein' as you wandered onto my property without permission or purpose..."

Tesh takes a couple of steps forward, standing behind Aiygel and leaning forward, her head hovering over her shoulder, hand placed upon the shoulder opposite.

"... then took some of my humble farm's export and expecting to get away without providing pay... I s'pose you have a few favors you could do for me. Without pay, of course. An eye for an eye, if you will." Tesh chuckles quietly at her own joke, putting on her best smile, eyeing Devijai in particular. "See, 'Jai, I'm not always mean n' fighty all the time. I can be nice, reasonable..."

Tesh's free hand rushes toward Aiygel's face with a sliver of silver, thankfully letting it rest beneath her jaw. The cold steel of a knife gently pats her chin. Devijai's been trying to keep a straight face, but she flinched as soon as the blade came. Now her eyes are wider than dinner plates.

"Don't expect it too often."

Tesh then releases Aiygel, making way for the staircase and heading back upstairs. "Help little Devijai around the farm a bit, new, nameless farmhand. Maybe pick some more of those apples that you tried takin', eh? Either that or you could start shovelin' shit."

She eventually leaves both Devijai's and Aiygel's line of sight, Devijai toothily grinning at Aiygel.

"So, ready to work?"

Re: The Fall of Alstand

-Work-

The words instantly enter my mind and i mechanically spout out my next few words. "I'm able to do as requested! Although the specific tasks listed are rather inefficient with my set of skills, i would much rather prefer something closer to the lines of research, perhaps you need me to develop some sort of apple-related AA?" I state.

Realizing then that i can, in no way or form work for a demon today, especially since i'm on a rather strict schedule to arrive at Alstand and somehow find a way to sustain myself, i sputter out immediately "Actually; I retract my former statement. I am not able to work, as i have yet to find a proper paying job and a way to su-" It's probably smarter to keep anything specific. "A proper way to feed myself and... sleep?"

I ponder for a few more seconds, the human is still noticeable dissatisfied with the fact i have offender her by letting myself consume one of those red fruits. "Instead, i would prefer to repay you in form of a trade?"

I immediately take off my hefty backpack and dig deep inside. I put my knees to the floor and take out a few objects: An orange-colored crystals, the ones used in explosive reactions and other minor crystal combinations, they're good for feasting on too. My undersized sleeping bag, a very shiny white rock, a few sheets of paper and a pen, and a small AA-processor taken directly out of a medium-sized AA.

"I hereby declare my proposal; My spectacularly shiny white rock for my freedom?" I confidently smile. Humans are attracted to shiny objects, especially of the white variety, whether in reality it may be a worthless item or not doesn't seem to matter; Just look at what they've done to gold!

"Oh, my name is Aiygel by the way. Well, it's not actually my name, but i prefer to be called that."

I stand up, rock in one hand and another stretched out to form a handshake.

Re: The Fall of Alstand

Tesh stops midstep, turns around, walks right up to Aiygel, takes her rock and looks at it for a few seconds.

"Wow, I think you might just-"

Tesh then pegs the rock at the floor, it shattering into hundreds of pieces. It's a wonder that the floorboards didn't break, with how hard she threw it.

"-have to make time. You're working here for the rest of Devijai's shift."

She then makes her way back up the stairs.

"Tough break." Devijai quips. "Come on. You gotta' work with me now."

Re: The Fall of Alstand

"Absolutely astonishing, to discard something of such high value without even batting her eyes!" I say with complete awe.

I realize that i'm now duty-bound to assist the demonic pirate girl, as far as she can understand. I'm still on a tight schedule and won't be here for that long.

My next thought is all about methods of escape and or hiding from potential demonic seafarers. I have not yet studied any demons, nor any pirates to that end, and i am unsure what methods of tracking they possess.

I turn to the shorter girl who seems to be more or less the demon-pirate's slave. "You're Devijai i assume? How long does your "shift" last precisely? And.. what would i precisely be "working" on?" I question her, and immediately another thought pops up.

"Say, you don't happen to be experienced with dealing with demons and or pirates, are you? And if so, what would you summarize their capabilities to track, hunt and or otherwise chase their prey? Would a combination of both be deadly or prove inefficient?"

Re: The Fall of Alstand

"I'm here until 8:15 PM, then I head home. I just pick apples, peaches, till the dirt to prepare it for crops she'll plant later, and, like she said, shovel shit out of the stables." Devijai replies candidly, no tone of resent or anger in her voice; she seems pretty okay with her hours, as well as her duties. "Also, I'm pretty much given the duty to watch over you and make sure you do your part, so if there's anyone you'll have to worry about escaping, it'll be me. I can run pretty fast, bike even faster... I don't think you'd get away from me on foot, unless you snuck off out of my sight somewhere. In that case, if Tesh ever found you walking around Alstand, let me tell you this: she killed me and brought me back to life in the same punch, then told me she was holding back. If I were you, I'd just work here for the 12 hours and leave with my teeth still intact... She doesn't take lightly to thieves, and I already pissed her off enough a couple of times. I've learned that so long as you've employed yourself here, temporarily or not, she won't kill you. She wouldn't kill anything that did her chores for her.

Now, come on." Devijai jerks her head toward the fields. "There's a long day of work ahead of us.

It is currently 7:58 AM, as shown on the little alarm clock on the counter, next to the oven. A long day of work indeed.

Re: The Fall of Alstand

12!?

That can't possibly be correct, at most i would be able to delay my trip by a few, maybe 4 hours..

I close my eyes and concentrate deeply, having to completely reorganize my plan.

Today, i'll work, but i still need to find a way to sustain myself. The house seems to have at least some sort of technology, it should have something being powered by an AA somewhere, i could easily snatch and feed off of that. I decide that i can easily spend the night here, hiding myself somewhere for the night.

I nod to myself and face the short blonde.

"Right! Only two more questions, is your "home" Alstand? and could you show me exactly what i'm supposed to... do? I don't recal ever working at al-"  I catch myself, I should really start thinking about my sentences before blurting them out.

"I don't recall ever working at a farm yet!"
